CASE STUDY - PERMITTED DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

The government has recently introduced a new permitted development right allowing developers to add two extra floors to detached blocks of flats, which came into force on the 1 August 2020 and is set out as Class A, Part 20, Schedule 2 of the General Permitted Development Order (the GPDO).

This is opening up some exciting new possibilities for many of our clients, and whilst it is early days with many councils still wary of issuing consents, it is just a matter of time before the first schemes start to seeping through and set the precedent, opening the floodgates for further intensification of existing housing stock.

Below is an existing & proposed image of our recent proposal to extend an existing 1960's block of flats in London within the new permitted development right.
